Antiquated Internet

Posted by admin on February 24th, 2009

It is true for as the hunters of botnets found out, the computers from which they were being launched were more than 5 years old. Some of the hardware, frameworks and equipment the internet subsists on are older than some of today’s users and is in need of constant repair for them to continue functioning properly. Any failures of the many hotspots at which the networks interconnect sends users in utter chaos unable to link with the rest of the network. A rightfully directed attack at these points also disables it such as with DoS attacks that floods servers with mail requests causing them to bog down unable to cope with the voluminous loads. These systems are upgraded from time to time that has allowed for growth in terms of the amount of traffic they can hold but you may be surprised to find links and interconnects that are older than the fall of the Berlin wall.

Firewalls for your Home - and your PC

Posted by admin on February 24th, 2009

An effective firewall protects your house from a blaze that may happen right next door hoping the flames are suppressed before it fails under the heat. The firewall on your pc works in the same way, allowing information that is authorized in and to get through while the rest is excluded preventing unauthorized access. Like the lock on your front door, the firewall software is designed to hold intruders at bay preventing probing attacks from the internet and even allowing you to define authorized access allowing authorized sites to gain access. Made standard as a built-in protection for XP through the several patches and the voluminous Service packs, other OS’s have also done the same to protect their proprietary systems hopefully they withstand the several attacks that happen each day without you even knowing about it from the internet.

Google App Engine

Posted by admin on February 24th, 2009

Many are taking notice of the Cloud Computing phenomenon which aims to rent out computing power to industries who gain to benefit from the advanced and powerful supercomputing capabilities of such a standard they need not worry about their own hardware. Imagine being a bank that has millions of transactions a day that have to be processed, collated and then prepared as analysis tools for the business. Now to have the necessary computing power, you first need space to house that hardware, you then need to purchase that hardware then develop the software that is designed to do just what is needed for your purposes, obtaining security and maintaining them (hardware and software) takes a lot of investment that could otherwise have been dedicated to more profit-earning tasks. Imagine developing the software, uploading it and getting it processed for you, without any support and maintenance of the resources getting the end result as if you had your own data center. Now, that’s cloud
computing, gaining from a little the same benefits which is cheaper and better.

Hardcopies a Thing of the Past

Posted by admin on February 24th, 2009

Not entirely, they may have digitized versions,/a> of such but they still remain in the many warehouses designed to contain and keep them till they are permanently destroyed or never. Documents such as Birth Certificates, Death Certificates and Land titles among some still have hard copies because of threats digital modification which with today’s technology is easy as pie. Unlike the paper form, counterfeits are harder to detect through the internet for there is no sure way to guarantee the authenticity of files which may have been altered before they were displayed. The complexity of criminals today makes this possible and with paper being a tangible resource that can be analyzed and checked for such, they will remain to be part of your daily lives for many years to come.

Microsoft - Getting Pushed Around or Out

Posted by admin on February 24th, 2009

As the software giant has been challenged by more and more competitors who have come up with better and more open systems, they have been slowly pushed aside but not out of the game. IBM in another bid to offer more options for the many users who hate Microsoft and revive their rule on part of the desktop market has released a statement that they would be coming up with a “MICROSOFT FREE” desktop that offers all the benefits and functions of a Windows-based computer system without the Windows of course. Called the Virtual Linux Desktop, it would cost 50% less to maintain compared to current Vista Based systems which is proving enticing to people who need the savings and are ready to embrace the cloud as the next step for a web without much of Microsoft’s control.
